Abstract

Terrorism as a complex form of political violence is actually a ,,social scourge" of the 21st century. It is a phenomenon of modern times, which involves many social phenomena and events accordingly deal with terrorism experts in various spheres of human activity. The paper was given, and semantic analysis etymological term of terrorism, or its genesis, as well as several academic and administrative definitions of this terms. In the opinion of a number of analysts of terrorism its roots are in the ancient, religious sects in the following: Zealots, Thugs and Assassins. The paper, through a comparative analysis of these sects is explained historical genesis of terrorist groups and organizations, as well as certain forms of modern terrorism.
