Abstract

Contemporary security threats posed by the migrant crisis are increasingly diverse and increasingly internationalized. These threats require an effective and coordinated response at the international and regional levels. Today, under the auspices of the United Nations (UN) and its institutions and forums - the UN Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC), the High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), the International Organization for Migration (IOM), the Global Forum on Migration and Development (GFMD), the G20 Forum of the most developed countries in the world the international community as a whole is facing serious problems of the migrant crisis. At the regional level, the European Union (EU), Organization of African Unity (OAU) and the Organisation of American States (OAS) monitor current internal and external migratory movements. Hence, complex and complicated migrant flows require comprehensive and coordinated activities at the national and international levels in order to prevent a humanitarian crisis. First of all, it refers to the consistent application of legal standards regarding the status of different categories of migrants. Good knowledge of their international legal status and the rules and principles of international refugee law in the current crisis situation is an important factor in addressing contemporary security challenges.
